About this role
JOB PURPOSE
The Farm Manager will oversee the day-to-day operations of the farm, ensuring efficient production management, high animal welfare standards, optimal feed utilization, and improved farm productivity and profitability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee the farm’s daily operations.
Manage the health, biosecurity, and vaccination schedules of goats, sheep, pigs, cattle, and chickens.
Monitor feed consumption, mortality rates, and growth targets.
Develop and implement feed formulations to achieve optimal animal performance and cost efficiency.
Manage farm workers and ensure compliance with operational procedures.
Maintain accurate farm records, including production reports, feed usage, inventory, and performance indicators.
Monitor and maintain animal housing systems, equipment, and farm infrastructure.
Ensure compliance with farm safety, hygiene, and operational standards.
Identify and implement operational improvements to enhance productivity and profitability.
Ensure that proper animal welfare practices are maintained at all times.
Skills and requirements
practical experience in animal production and farm management. a minimum of 2 years’ practical experience managing broiler and/or layer operations. demonstrated experience managing mixed livestock enterprisesincluding goatssheeppigscattleand chickens. strong knowledge of animal management systems. practical experience in animal feed formulation is mandatory. knowledge of goatchickenpigand cattle nutritionhealth managementand biosecurity systems. experience developing and implementing vaccinationdisease preventionand biosecurity programmes. experience supervising farm workers and coordinating daily farm activities. proficiency in maintaining and interpreting farm productionfeedinventorymortalityand financial records. experience monitoring animal performance indicatorsincluding feed conversiongrowth ratesegg productionand overall productivity. knowledge of animal welfarefarm hygieneoccupational health and safetyand environmental management practices.strong leadershipcommunicationorganizationaland problem-solving skills. basic computer literacy and the ability to prepare accurate farm reports. the ability to work independently and manage multiple farm activities effectively
